According to the National Employment Law Project, nearly 65 million Americans have some variety of criminal record.That's roughly 1 in 5 Americans, significantly higher ratio than Canada's (approximately 1 in 10 Canadian's have a criminal record).
It shouldn't be, if you approach it the right way.
ReplyDeleteI am working as a new truck driver with a reputable company and I have a criminal record. In fact, they have my record and so does the DHS when I do my cross-border deliveries with my newly-acquired waiver.
I don't have a FAST card (yet) but I have been given conflicting information as to whether I'm even eligible WITH a waiver, and since my company doesn't require one I've set that matter aside for the time being.
My criminal record indicates I made mistakes in my past, but I have also gained enormous experience and learned from them. That valuable experience is considered by my employer to be an asset. One would never suspect I had one by looking at me, that's for sure.
